Cristina
Braga is considered as one of the most important harpists
of Brazil, and has been to a large extent responsible for
showing the world a harp with brazilian soul, and spreading
out the possibilities of her instrument in her country.
Working
with both classical and popular music, she collects a total
of thirteen recorded works, two of them also released in the
USA, Japan and Taiwan. She also performs regularly as soloist
with many Symphony Orchestras and has won several prizes.
Cristina is principal harpist with the Rio de Janeiro Municipal
Theatre Symphony Orchestra since 1993, where she played with
maestros such as Mistislav Rostropovich, Karl Martin, Gabor
Oetvos, José Maria Florêncio, Mário Tavares,
David Machado, Sílvio Barbato, and others.
She
is member of the board of directors of the World Harp Congress,
and directs a Festival in the mountains of the beautiful historic
region of the coffee plantations of Rio de Janeiro, the Festival
Vale do Café.
She
studied with Acacia Brazil at the Music School of the Rio
de Janeiro Federal University – where she graduated
with the Gold Medal Award distinction prize , and with Susann
MacDonald in USA.
Cristina
has also performed and recorded with many leading brazilian
singers such as Nara Leão, Lenine, Marisa Monte, Nando
Reis, Angela Maria, Peri Ribeiro, Moreira da Silva, Os Titãs,
Zizi Possi and Quarteto em Cy among others.
