biography
Hugh Webb was born in London in 1965. He studied with Renata Scheffel-Stein, Sioned Williams and Susan Drake. In 1989 he was chose for the Park Lane Young Artists Series where he premiered Javier Alvarez's "According to Differences" for harp and tape. Heis joint Principal Harpist in the Philharmonia Orchestra, and has been guest Principal Harpist in all the major British symphony orchestras, both for concerts and recordings. As harp soloist he has appeared in many festivals. Hugh has worked extensively in the contemporary music field, and composers Javier Alvarez, Robert Keeley, Paul Archbold and Ian Dearden have written solo works for him with funding from the Arts Council. He has developed his own Jazz harp style and has recorded an album of cabaret songs with Lowri Blake.

Recent CD recordings include Bax's Concerto for Flute, Oboe and Harp with the Academy of St. Martin's Chamber Ensemble (Chandos), Villa-Lobos' Quartet (Clarinet Classics), Bax's Fantasy Sonata (Koch International), and the complete Spohr Violin and Harp Sonatas (Naxos). Hugh has composed a show for children based on Hans Christian Andersen's The Snow Queen
