JAZZHARP ACADEMY - SEPT 17-19, 2010

The iJHF proudly announces the 1st ever Jazz Harp Academy!
The 3-day Academy will be held on September 17, 18, and 19 in The Netherlands. On the faculty: Park Stickney, Edmar Castaneda, and some great non-harpists as well.

We offer 2 courses: a 3-day intensive course for harp students and professionals, and a weekend clinic for non-professionals or other 'light users':-). With group lessons, theory classes, rhythm class, jazz combo classes, lectures, jam sessions and possibility for private lessons.

Pre-registration is now opened (the first applications are coming in and there's limited space available so secure your place in time).

When someone asks me what instrument I play, and I say "I play the harp", I can see all sorts of expressions: surprise, bewilderment, question, wonder, ...
I'm always curious to know what the person imagines behind these words that are so familiar to me: Anne at a large golden harp surrounded by a classical orchestra, or sitting near an old oak singing Celtic melodies with my troubadour harp, or even standing behind an amplified blue harp, surprisingly playing the blues?
As a harpist, it may be that, or so many other things...

Tom Monger is the first harpist to storm the charts of popular music in many countries around the world. He is the harpist of Florence & the Machine, awarded Britain’s best band in 2009.

Their release album “Lungs” is a hit in many countries and they have been touring through the UK, Europe, North America and Australia since.

iJHF spoke with Tom on the eve of their European tour in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Here's a harpist that you should know of, a once-guitarist-turned-harpist: Motoshi Kosako. We met him in Salt Lake City in 2007 when the iJHF was launched, and he has greatly developed his jazz harp playing over the past few years. This won't be the last you'll hear of him.
