Sabine Meijers 

Executive director & founder 


Sabine Meijers (1975) studied the harp during High school at the Young Talent Department of the ‘Brabants Conservatorium’ in Tilburg with Ernestine Stoop. After graduation she was admitted to the Royal Conservatory of the Hague where she studied with Edward Witsenburg & Ernestine Stoop.  

Sabine concluded her classical training at Codarts, Academy for Music and Dance in Rotterdam, where she studied with Godelieve Schrama, Sarah O'Brien and Saskia Kingma. 

In addition to her musical studies, she graduated from the Management of Arts & Culture certificate program at the Erasmus University Rotterdam in 2009.  


Sabine took part in masterclasses with teachers like Isabelle Moretti, Germaine Lorenzini and Isabelle Perrin, for Baroque Music in particular she took classes from Andrew Lawrence King and Frances Kelly.  

Sabine has played in several orchestras including the Rotterdam Young Philharmonic Orchestra and Krashna Musica. She appeared with the Haags Matrozenkoor, the Maasstedelijk Vocaal Ensemble, the Rotterdam Young Ensemble and performed extensively with her duo’s with flutist Romana Goumare and soprano Janet Schouten.  


Aside from her work as a classical harpist, Sabine likes to explore playing jazz harp. She took classes with jazz harpists Harvi Griffin, Park Stickney and Deborah Henson-Conant and jazz pianists Paul Stark and Johan Clement. 

She regularly performs with her jazz / Third stream ensemble Alba. 

Together with harpist Brenda Dor-Groot she forms harpduo HarpZZ. 


Sabine is a harp teacher at the school of music in Leiden and Capelle a/d IJssel, and in her private practice. She also gives basic jazz, blues and improvisation workshops together with Brenda Dor-Groot. 

In June of 2006, Sabine and Brenda founded the Dutch Jazz Harp Foundation, soon followed by the iJHF in 2007.
